A Little History
In 1929 or 1930, the Roberts Bar, now known as the Lost Village Bar, began as a drugstore in downtown Robert’s, Montana. Built by Pentillas on property between the Bernhardt house on the west side of First Street, between Carbon & Pine, and the old Laundromat. It was initially a bar, then a dance hall. Mr. Gunnery had a pharmacy in it for a while. Three years after the drug store opened, the business was purchased by Mr. Anderson, who transformed it into the Roberts Bar. Rudy Groshelle bought the bar in the 1940’s, moved it to its present location facing Highway 212, and changed the name to Rudy’s. (Rumor has it that people were even in the bar, continuing to drink as it was being moved!)
Joe Miller purchased the bar from Groshelle, and Joe’s daughter Wildred managed it for him. She changed its name to the current “Los Village Bar.” Over the years, this town landmark has hosted many community celebrations, benefits, and even some wedding receptions. Subsequent owners of the Lost Village Bar include Frank and Viola Packard for 1960’s until 1981; Gary and Dorothy Holbrook from 1981 through 1996; Mike Smith from 1996 until 1999. In 2000, Jim Howard bought the bar, remodeled the building, and now operated the continuously popular gathering point by the highway.
